NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will host No. 10 Catholic in a non-conference battle at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Captains Turf Field.
CNU enters the showdown with a 1-1 record. Meanwhile, Catholic comes into the bout at 0-1.

A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS Through the first two weeks of the season,
Meaghan Galvin currently ranks third in the Capital Athletic Conference with 12 points, eight goals, and four assists. Her 11 draw controls also place her third in the league, while
Catie Chess and
Sarah Culver are tied for fourth in the CAC with eight apiece.
Along with their efforts on the draw, Chess is second on the team with nine points, while Culver is third with six.
Kylie Chaplin has also scored four times to help round out a well-balanced attack.
Meanwhile, on the defensive end,
Kirsten Mendelsohn and
Mariah Ginebra have each forced a pair of turnovers this season. Between the pipes,
Emma Walsh has started both games and sports a .500 save percentage and an 11.36 goals-against-average.
LAST TIME OUT On Saturday, the Captains dropped a 14-11 decision against Washington College, who entered the battle receiving votes in the latest IWLCA National Poll. During the contest, Chess erupted for four goals, while Galvin added five points. Walsh and
Hanna Slough also teamed up to make nine saves against the Shorewomen.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS In the squad's first action of the season, Catholic fell to No. 9 Salisbury, 12-7, on Saturday. Against the Sea Gulls, Alexis Bosilovic registered four goals, while Allie Bond secured 11 draw controls. Meanwhile, Christina De Cesaris notched seven saves during her time between the pipes.
Catholic is coming off of a tremendous 2015 campaign during which the team advanced to the NCAA Regional Finals before suffering a 13-12 setback against SUNY Cortland, who went on to win the national championship. CUA returns its entire midfield unit from last year's team, including reigning All-American Anna Stumme.
SERIES HISTORY CNU and Catholic have met eight times with the Cardinals holding a perfect 8-0 mark in the series. The two programs last met in 2012 when Catholic registered an 18-5 victory over the Captains during the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
