DOVER, Del. -- The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will kick off Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Captains battle Wesley at Drass Field.
Entering the first league contest of the year, CNU sits at 4-1 overall, including 2-0 in road bouts. Meanwhile, Wesley sports a 2-3 record with a 2-2 mark at home.

A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS Christopher Newport has registered back-to-back 10-goal victories, including an 18-8 triumph over Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday.
Meaghan Galvin has been at the forefront of the high-powered attack as the junior is tied for the CAC lead with 26 points. Her 10 assists also rank third in the league and her 16 goals place her fourth. So far this season, she has scored in all five games and boasts four hat-tricks. She also has had at least two assists on four occasions.
Closing in on history, Galvin needs only one free-position goal to establish a new career record at CNU. She is also just 14 draw controls shy of matching Kaitlin Quigley's all-time record of 188.
Along with Galvin,
Sarah Culver is sixth in the league with 13 goals, while
Catie Chess is tied for seventh with 12.
On the defensive end,
Emma Walsh has been a force in the crease. The freshman goalie leads the CAC with a .578 save percentage. She has made at least 10 stops in three of her appearances, including 14 during the squad's 9-8 victory over No. 10 Catholic. Meanwhile,
Tess D'Arcy has helped out on the back end with a team-high 14 ground balls, and
Mariah Ginebra is tied for fifth in the league with nine caused turnovers.
LAST TIME OUT On Wednesday, CNU took down Virginia Wesleyan, 18-8, at Birdsong Field. During the contest,
Lindsay Weaver erupted for a career-high four goals, while Galvin tacked on six points. Culver and
Julia Golden carried the team's freshman contingent with three tallies apiece. Walsh and
Hanna Slough each contributed four saves during the game as well.
SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES Wesley is coming off of a huge 19-2 victory over Mt. St. Vincent last Saturday. During that contest, Bailey Olds notched 10 points, including seven assists. Foley Wassmuth and Fallon Fore added four points apiece as well. Meanwhile, Savannah Clough collected 10 saves, and the defense combined to force 17 turnovers.
Overall this season, Clough ranks second in the league with a .562 save percentage, while her 68 total stops lead the conference. She also stands second with 21 ground balls. Offensively, Olds ranks 11th in the conference with 15 points, while Wassmuth leads the Wolverines with nine goals.
SERIES HISTORY CNU and Wesley have battled twice with the Captains posting a victory in both meetings. Last season, Christopher Newport notched a 21-1 victory at Captains Turf Field. During that contest, four players posted hat-tricks, including four goals by
Carly Wilson.
UP NEXT Following Saturday's contest, CNU will return home on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. showdown with Randolph-Macon.
