The twin bill marks the third road game in six days and wraps up a grueling stretch that included five games in 11 days. First, the 24th-ranked CNU women will take on Wesley at 1:00 pm, followed by the 6th-ranked CNU men at 3:00 pm.
Both CNU teams came away with huge three-point victories at Salisbury on Wednesday night, as the CNU men clinched the 2016 CAC Regular Season Championship and the women clinched a playoff berth. Both also added to substantial win streaks as neither team has lost since the calendar turned to 2016.
With five games remaining in the regular season, the Christopher Newport women have won 13 straight and improved to 18-2 overall with an 11-2 mark in conference play. They will face a Wolverines team that has provided tough matchup problems throughout league play despite an overall record of 5-15 with a 4-9 record in the CAC. Earlier this season, the Captains were able to pull away from Wesley for an 82-42 victory at the Freeman Center.
In the latest win, sophomore Sam Porter just missed a triple-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 8 steals, leading the Captains to a 55-52 victory at Salisbury. CNU's leading rebounder is also the team leader in steals, helping the Captains rank third nationally in steals per game. The balanced offense is averaging a league-best 74.7 points per game with sophomore Anitra Thomas pouring in a team-high 10.4 points per game.
Wesley is led by junior forward Brionna Johnson, the league's leading rebounder. Due to an injury, Johnson was limited to just seven minutes against CNU in their first matchup. She is leads the Wolverines in scoring, with 12.6 points per game, and is hauling in 10.2 rebounds per game as the only player in the CAC averaging a double-double. Joining her at the top of the Wesley scoring chart is Tiyanna Gibbs, as the sophomore guard is adding 12.6 points per game in a team-high 34.5 minutes per game.

John Krikorian and the CNU men will look to add to their 10-game winning streak after improving to 19-1 overall, 13-0 in conference play. The Wesley men are a dangerous foe coming in as winners of four of their last six games, improving to 7-13, 5-8. Earlier this year, the Wolverines gave CNU a lot to handle at the Freeman Center before the Captains pulled away for an 81-68 victory.
In their current ten-game winning streak, six different players have led the Captains in scoring with junior
Tim Daly taking over the last two games. Daly has posted back-to-back 20-point games and came through in a huge clutch moment against Salisbury on Wednesday night, draining two must-have free-throws with one second remaining to tie the game and force overtime. He leads the team in rebounding, with 7.8 boards per game, and is one of three Captains averaging double-figure scoring, with 12.4 points per game. Sophomores
Marcus Carter, with 14.8 ppg, and
Aaron McFarland, with 14.7 ppg, are the other two.
Wesley features an athletic and veteran starting back-court tandem in seniors Anthony Bowers and Wayne Lennon. Each are averaging over 12 points per game, while a third guard, sophomore J.W. Lawson, leads the team with 14.7 points per game. Lennon also leads the team in rebounding, with 8.5 rebounds per game, while Bowers serves as the key set-up man with a team-high 2.9 assists per game.
