LYNCHBURG, Va.- Christopher Newport scored 18 times Saturday and won twice at Lynchburg College by scores of 7-6 and 11-0. The second game at Moon Field was stopped after five innings due to the eight-run rule.
CNU had to come from behind in the opener after the Hornets scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning to grab a 6-1 lead. The Captains answered with four in the fourth, two coming on a home run from senior catcher
Hannah Cook, and then plated a single run in the seventh to force extra innings. Christopher Newport then won the game with an unearned run in the eighth frame.

Scoop Simon delivered a two-run double in the fourth inning, and sophomore transfer
Lia Batchelor tied the game in the seventh with a run-scoring single.

Maiven McKnight pitched five innings of scoreless relief in game one to post the win in her CNU debut.
In the nightcap, CNU exploded for six runs in the second inning and cruised to an 11-0 win. Junior transfer
Tara Heatwole improved to 2-0, throwing five scoreless innings and allowing just three hits. Heatwole has now thrown 12 innings as a Captain and has yet to yield a run while giving up just four hits.

Leah Andrews smacked a three-run home run in the fifth inning to put the finishing touches on the CNU sweep.
The Captains, ranked 12th in the nation, are off to a 4-0 start and will host Averett for a non-conference doubleheader Sunday at Captains Park. The twin bill will begin at 1:00 p.m.Â
