CNU Men's Tennis Hosts Three Matches This Weekend

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- With nice weather forecasted for this weekend, the 37th-ranked CNU men's tennis team will break in the James T. and Sarah C. Eyre Courts for the first time this spring. The Captains will host regionally-ranked Franklin & Marshall at Noon on Saturday, followed by a Saturday evening matchup with Division I Longwood University at 4:00 pm and a Sunday morning battle with Division I University of Richmond at 11:00 am.

The Captains (1-1) have been led by Steven Boslet at the No. 3 position in singles, going 2-0, while the junior has combined for a 1-1 mark at No. 1 doubles with senior Chiraag Shetty. With just two matches under their belt so far this season, the five other starters have all split with 1-1 records in singles so far this season.

Director of Tennis Eric Christiansen is in his fourth year at the helm, guiding CNU back into national relevance as the Captains opened the year ranked 37th in the ITA National Rankings. They are also tabbed the 9th best team in the Atlantic South, with sophomore David Reed regionally ranked in singles at No. 21.

Heading into Saturday's matchup, Franklin & Marshall is ranked 16th in the Atlantic South and also features one regionally-ranked singles player in 24th-ranked Doug Kaplan. The Diplomats are opening their season against the Captains on Saturday.

Also facing CNU on Saturday will be the Longwood Lancers, coming in with a 1-3 dual record. This spring, they've opened with three straight losses to East Carolina, Mary Washington and Coastal Carolina all on the road. Alfonso Castellano has played all four matches in the No. 1 singles spot while also pairing with Julian Farthing in the top doubles position.

Rounding out the weekend, CNU will face the University of Richmond on Sunday, as the Spiders carry a 3-5 overall record into this weekend's action. They've won two of their last three and will be led by Jacob Dunbar at the No. 1 slot.

Full scores and a recap will be available at CNUsports.com following the action.
