LEXINGTON, Va. -- The 37th-ranked Christopher Newport men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday, falling 6-3 at No. 32 Washington & Lee. The Captains were led by Steven Boslet and Chiraag Shetty against the Generals, but were unable to come from behind to capture the victory. 

Boslet and Shetty played together at No. 1 doubles and picked up the lone CNU victory in pairs play. The junior and senior took on Perry Clements and Michael Holt at the top spot and pulled away for an 8-5 victory. In the other two doubles matchups, CNU had an early lead in both, but Washington & Lee responded to capture both wins and take a 2-1 lead into singles play. 

The Captains would fall behind, 3-1, and then again at 4-2 before Shetty pulled the Captains back within one point with just two matches to play. CNU dropped singles matchups at No. 1 and 2 while Boslet won for the Captains at No. 3. Boslet improved to 2-0 this season after he took down Joe Siami (7-5, 6-1), setting up Shetty's win to pull CNU back into the match. 

Christopher Newport's lone senior was facing Thomas Johnson at line four and battled through a tough first-set tiebreaker to capture a key victory, 7-6 (8-6), and then went on to win in the second, 6-4. 

Rookie Nicholas Ruzicka won his first set at No. 5, giving the Captains hope at pulling even at four points apiece, but Will Bannister clinched the match with a come-from-behind win 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

The Captains will return to action next weekend, facing off against regionally-ranked Franklin & Marshall on February 20, at 12:00 pm. CNU will also face NCAA Division I foe Longwood at 4:00 pm, and will batle the University of Richmond on February 21 at 11:00 am.
