NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport returns to the hardwood Wednesday night, as the Freeman Center plays host to the 2016 Crowne Plaza Captains Shootout. The two-day holiday tournament begins Wednesday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. as William Peace University takes on SUNY College at Old Westbury.
CNU, ranked ninth in the nation, then tangles with Pitt-Greensburg in the nightcap starting at approximately 7:30 p.m. The Captains are 6-2 so far and are coming off a 59-58 loss at Salisbury on December 17th. Christopher Newport suffered the road defeat thanks to a half-court shot at the buzzer by the Sea Gulls, and have since had an 11-day break over the holidays.
Pitt-Greensburg is 0-10 this season heading into the tourney, and the Bobcats were beaten at home by Penn State-Behrend last Wednesday, 89-45. The Captains defeated UPG last December when the schools met in Greensburg, PA, 93-74.
Wednesday night's tilt begins a busy week for
John Krikorian's squad, as the Captains will play three games at the Freeman Center in a five-day span. In addition to two games in the Captains Shootout, CNU will also host Virginia Wesleyan on New Year's Day Sunday at 4:00 p.m.

The Shootout will continue on Thursday with the third-place game at 4:00 p.m. followed by the championship at 6:00 p.m.
Tickets for the tournament games will be available at the Freeman Center both days.
