About Eastern Mennonite
The Royals will be opening their season against the 14th-ranked Captains, coming off an 18-8 season last year. Eastern Mennonite graduated two-time ODAC Player of the Year Jess Rheinheimer, and feature a young squad with just one senior in 2016-17. Myneshia Walker is the team's leading scorer back, coming off a season in which she averaged 10.7 points per game. Walker is a strong three-point shooter and will extend the CNU defense from outside. In the paint, the Royals' lone senior returns to lead the way as Jonae Guest played in all 26 games last season averaging 6.0 rebounds and 5.5 points per game.

Eastern Mennonite was picked seventh in the ODAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

All-Time Series
Most of the all-time series between Christopher Newport and Eastern Mennonite was played in the 1980's, as the team's have matched up just three times since 1981. The Royals own a slight 5-3 advantage in the series, picking up a win in the most recent matchup on December 30, 2014, by a final score of 74-54. CNU defeated EMU in the NCAA Tournament the year before, 73-63.

About the Captains
The defensive pressure that was a staple of last season's Sweet 16 team was back in full form during Wednesday night's season opener, forcing 36 turnovers and grabbing 22 steals against Bridgewater. The Captains held the Eagles to just 28.6% shooting from the floor while a frenetic full-court press forced 24 first-half turnovers.

Offensively, junior All-Conference forward Sam Porter led the way, scoring 12 points on 6-10 shooting. She added seven rebounds and four steals to help pace a balanced attack that saw only one player register more than 16 minutes played.

On the Road Again
CNU is playing three of its first four games of the season away from home, including Saturday night's matchup against Eastern Mennonite. In the first four years of head coach Bill Broderick's tenure, the venue has been of little consequence, as CNU has won 43 games at home and 42 on the road. CNU has won 75% of their road games in the last four years (42-14).

Coming Up Next
CNU will entertain Methodist University on Tuesday, November 22 in the home opener at 6:00 pm. The Captains will tip off with live video and live stats available for fans who can't make it to the Freeman Center.
