PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The fall portion of the 2016-17 men's tennis schedule will conclude for Christopher Newport on Sunday, as the Captains take on a pair of programs that finished last season in the national rankings. Competing on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University, the Captains will face the host Tartans at 8:30 am, followed by a neutral site matchup at Noon against Oberlin College.
All three teams were ranked in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national rankings last season. Carnegie Mellon was ranked seventh nationally, the Captains at No. 28, and Oberlin the 40th ranked team in the country.
If the matches are played outdoors, live video will be available for both of CNU's contests on Sunday, and live stats will be included for the match against Carnegie Mellon. Links to both can be found on the men's tennis schedule on CNUsports.com.
The Captains have been led this fall by junior
Justin Cerny, named the Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week after a noteworthy performance at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships. Cerny won three singles matches to reach the Quarterfinals, and also picked up a pair of doubles wins with teammate
David Reed. The Regional Championships were shortened due to poor weather, but the Captains saw four players clinch multiple victories in the event.
Full scores and a recap will be available following the non-conference action on Sunday.
