FROSTBURG, Md. -- Looking to remain unbeaten in conference play, the Christopher Newport men's soccer team will close out a three-game road trip on Saturday, October 8, facing Frostburg State University at 7:00 pm. The Captains have won four straight, and will look to add to a 10-2-0 overall record, with a perfect 3-0-0 mark in conference play.
The Bobcats (6-6-0, 2-1-0) will provide live stats and, weather permitting, a live video webcast of the action starting at 7:00 pm. Links to both can be found through the men's soccer schedule at CNUsports.com.Â
CNU remains atop the Capital Athletic Conference standings after racing away from Southern Virginia, 3-0, in their last matchup. Â The Captains have scored multiple goals in all but one game this season, featuring one of the nation's top offenses. Four different players have double-figure scoring seasons, led by senior
Jimmy Grace with 19 points.Â
Grace has enjoyed a fantastic return to the field in 2016 after missing all of 2015 with an injury. The senior midfielder leads the team in goals, assists, and points, while ranking among the league leaders as well. He also has three game-winning goals to lead CNU this season, while taking a team-high 40 shots. Joining him atop the scoring column is sophomore transfer
Stephen Durbin, who has 16 points in his first year with the Captains. Durbin has also scored seven goals, like Grace, and has added a pair of assists.Â
The scoring depth continues down the line, with
Zachary Ballard and
Andrew Gogolin each chipping in five goals, while seniors
Patrick Burns,
Sammy Blosser, and rookie
Jordan Boone have each scored three times. Â
Frostburg State will have to contend with the Captains offense by employing one of the league's top goalkeepers in Hassan Mostafa. This season, Mostafa has a 1.23 goals-against average with 58 saves and a .806 save percentage. Offensively, the Bobcats have a balanced attack led by Josh McRobie, who has scored 15 points on seven goals and one assist.Â
Following Saturday's matchup with Frostburg State, head coach
Steve Shaw and the Captains will return home for the first time in nearly two weeks as they host St. Mary's (Md.) on Tuesday, October 11.Â
