NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Seeking their fifth straight win overall and third to start the Capital Athletic Conference season, the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's soccer team will host Southern Virginia University on Tuesday night at 6:00 pm. The Captains are off to their best start with an 8-1-0 record, taking on a Knights program with a 3-6-0 overall mark and 0-2 record against league foes.

Live stats and a live video webcast will be available at CNUsports.com/live

With a win, the Captains would register the finest 10-game start to a season in program history with their ninth victory; CNU started the 2000 season with an 8-2-0 overall record. This season, the Captains have moved into the national rankings for the fourth time in program history, currently ranked No. 23 in the NSCAA Top 25.

The CNU defense has been nearly impenetrable, allowing just four goals over the first nine games of action. Junior goalkeeper Carly Maglio has played all 810 minutes and boasts a league-leading 0.44 goals-against average and .882 save percentage.

Offensively, senior Victoria Perry is closing in on the all-time program scoring record, moving up to second all-time with 95 career points. Perry is now just eight points shy of all-time scoring leader Emma O'Reilly, who wrapped her career with 103 total points. She is tied for third in career goals scored (35) and recently became the all-time leader in career assists (25). This season, she has scored a team-high 18 points on six goals and six assists, leading a group of 15 goal-scorers. Sophomore Kayla Locklear has added five goals for 10 points, and rookie Carson Pokorny also has 10 points, on three goals and four assists.

CNU will taking on a Southern Virginia squad currently on a three-game slide after starting the year with a 3-3 mark. In conference play, the Knights battled Salisbury in a 1-0 setback before falling to Penn State Harrisburg, 3-1.

Southern Virginia has been led offensively by All-Conference senior forward Tatiana Monsen, scoring 13 points on six goals and one assist. Rookei Kierra Tanuvasa has added three goals and an assist, while freshman Taylor Martin also has three goals.

Following Tuesday evening's matchup with SVU, the Captains will travel to Frostburg State University this weekend for a 5:00 pm kickoff on Saturday, October 8.
