No. 21 CNU Women's Soccer Hosts Mary Washington on Senior Night Saturday at 6:00 PM

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- As the regular season continues to wind down, the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's soccer team will take on the University of Mary Washington in another crucial conference battle Saturday night at 6:00 pm. The Captains (11-1-0, 5-0-0) will look to add to a seven-game winning streak while taking on the Eagles (8-4-1, 4-1-0), currently tied for second in the conference standings.

Live stats and video will be available from Captains Field on Saturday night, as a weekend chock-full of home events for the University's Family Weekend continues to roll on. Appropriately, CNU will celebrate Senior Day with the four Captains wrapping up their final regular season run. One of the winningest classes in program history, Kate Hurlock, Allie McWilliams, Victoria Perry, and Shannon Stefaniga will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.

On the field, CNU has won seven straight games and 11 of their first 12, setting a new program mark for the best start in program history. The Captains boast a dominating offense, averaging 3.58 goals per game, and a nearly impregnable defense, allowing just five goals over the first 1,080 minutes of play this season.

The back line has impressed all season, with rookies Shaye Doherty and Keiley McCarthy joining juniors Danielle Pratt and Kira Warner. They have allowed an average of just 6.7 shots per game this season, while notching seven shutouts. Earning all 11 wins between the pipes has been junior goalkeeper Carly Maglio, who is the league leader in save percentage (.896) and goals-against average (0.42).

Right behind the Captains in the league statistical leaders, though, is the Mary Washington defense, holding opponents to an 0.81 goals-against average. The Eagles have allowed just four goals in conference play, and only ten all season. Sophomore Haley Randall ranks second in the CAC in goals-against average (0.80) and fourth in save percentage (.800).

Offensively, CNU has featured a dynamic attack this season headlined by 2014 CAC Player of the Year and two-time All-Region selection Victoria Perry. She ranks third in the CAC in scoring with 23 points, and became just the second player in program history to reach 100 points for her career. The senior forward has a team-high eight goals with seven assists, but she is hardly the only option for opposing defenses to track. Nineteen different players on the roster have registered at least one point this season, with 17 scoring at least one goal. The Captains offense is on a record-breaking pace, averaging the most points per game in program history (10.64).

Mary Washington also has a balanced attack this season, led by Maryfay Jackson with 12 points and Allye Reynolds with 10. Jackson has a pair of winners as part of her team-high five goals, while adding a couple assists as well. Reynolds has primarily come off the bench while adding four goals and two assists. .

Following Saturday's Senior Night festivities, the Captains will then host Salisbury University on Wednesday, October 19 at 7:00 pm.
