The Captains' unbeaten streak to start the season ends at six games with the setback, coming in an evenly matched and highly competitive game. Both teams had a number of chances going forward, combining for 21 shots on-goal.
CNU took a 1-0 lead into halftime behind a point blank goal by Pinckney, registering her first career score. Junior
Victoria Perry set up Pinckney on the goal for her first assist of the season as the two combined on a play with just over a minute left to go in the half.
The Captains lead would hold for just over 23 minutes of game time before Rauh converted off a pass by Hannah Hodge to tie the game. Both teams took nine shots in the second half, but Wheaton held a slight advantage in shots on target, forcing CNU goalkeeper
Carly Maglio to make five saves.
In the extra period, Wheaton carried the momentum and Rauh took control. She first took a shot in the 92nd minute that Maglio turned away, and then nearly scored in the 97th minute but was called offsides. Then, with just over two minutes to go in the first overtime period, Anna Burnidge found Rauh for the gamewinner to end the game, 2-1.
Eight different CNU players had at least one shot on-goal in the game, forcing Wheaton's Abbey Fuster to make eight saves. Maglio's career-high ten saves came in her second career start against a nationally-ranked opponent.
