NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will welcome Mary Washington to town for a 4 p.m. battle on Wednesday at Captains Turf Field.
Following a 14-8 victory over Frostburg State on Saturday, CNU enters Wednesday with a 5-5 record, including a 2-1 mark in conference action. Mary Washington comes in at 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the CAC.
Wednesday's game marks the 12th all-time meeting between the Captains and Eagles. Overall, Mary Washington has an 11-0 record against CNU, including a 19-18 double-overtime victory in Fredericksburg last year.

In their last outing, the Captains gave
Carolyn Query her 100th career victory with a six-goal triumph over Frostburg State. During the contest,
Hanna Slough led an outstanding defensive effort with 12 saves, five ground balls, and two caused turnovers. The junior also stopped six free-position attempts and was honored as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts.
On the offensive end,
Erin Callahan recorded four goals and an assist, while
Lindsay Weaver and
Meaghan Galvin added hat-tricks as well.
Overall this season, the Captains rank second in the conference with a 13.40 goals-per-game average. On an individual level, Galvin ranks second in the league with 37 points, while
Kylie Chaplin is fifth with 33. Defensively, CNU is allowing just 9.50 goals-per-game, which ranks fourth in the CAC. The squad has also forced 104 turnovers, including 14 by
Mariah Ginebra.
Mary Washington enters Wednesday on a minor two-game skid, including a 16-3 setback against No. 10 Salisbury on Saturday. The Eagles have been led by Corinne Wiederkehr, who ranks third in the conference with 36 points and 28 goals. Taylor Paige has paced the squad defensively with a .339 save percentage and an 11.63 goals-against-average. Wiederkehr, Emily Mott, and Maiah Barlett have all forced at least 10 turnovers as well.
Following Wednesday's contest, Christopher Newport will hit the road for a 3 p.m. showdown with Lynchburg on April 4.
