Complete Box ScoreNEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Playing their first home match on the outdoor courts this season, the Christopher Newport men's tennis team cruised to a quick conference shutout over Frostburg State (2-7, 0-3). The Captains (9-5, 2-0) won their second straight without dropping a single set, and gave up just eight games on Sunday.
Justin Cerny continued his strong performance this week, winning seven off the eight matches he played. On Sunday, the rookie dispatched Colin Christian without surrendering a game, 6-0, 6-0, on the number two line, and also paired with
David Reed for an 8-1 win at number one doubles.
CNU also captured straight set 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 5 and No. 6, as freshmen
Max Katcher and
Dillon Sykes raced through Joe Guididas and Rodrigo Valenzuela, respectively.
Michael Dodd gave up just a single game at No. 4, as the sophomore won 6-0, 6-1 over Arun Pant.
In doubles, Dodd played with
Arttu Fiva in the No. 2 matchup against Pant and Teron Tyre, winning 8-0. Katcher and Sykes also added a 2-0 performance when they won 8-1 over Marcus Bowers and Joey Cox at No. 3.
After starting the conference season 2-0, the Captains are now slated to face preseason favorite Mary Washington, ranked 19th in the nation, on Friday, March 27. CNU will host the Eagles at 4:00 pm.
