NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- Riding a seven-game winning streak to open the season, the Christopher Newport University men's basketball squad travels to Greensburg, Pennsylvania, for a Wednesday afternoon non-conference game. CNU takes on the Bobcats of the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg, with tipoff set for 4:00 p.m. The game will be the final before the holidays for the CNU squad.
The Captains are coming off an exciting 63-60 victory Sunday at Virginia Wesleyan. Sophomore
Aaron McFarland led the team in scoring for the third straight game, scoring 15 points as CNU improved to 7-0. The Captains again played stellar defense, and continue to allow less than 60 points per game this season.
It marks the first time since the 2000-2001 season the Captains have opened 7-0. CNU began that season 11-0 in the very first year the Freeman Center was opened, and ended up advancing to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament.
Pitt-Greensburg is off to a 5-1 start and the Bobcats have won four in a row. It will be just the second meeting of the schools, with the Captains holding a 1-0 edge in the all-time series. CNU beat Pitt-Greensburg, 76-70, two years ago at the Freeman Center.
The game will be broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show beginning at 3:40 p.m. The action will also be streamed live on CNUsports.com/live.
