FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Senior
Lindsay Mondloch added to her team-high in assists and then chipped in her first goal of the season in what would prove to be a very critical moment for the CNU women's soccer team Saturday. Facing Mary Washington on the road, Mondloch's rip came in the 87th minute and looked to ice the game, giving CNU a 3-1 lead, but an Eagles goal less than a minute later made the senior's tally the decisive score in a 3-2 win for the Captains. Christopher Newport improves to 6-3-1 overall with a 1-1-0 record in CAC play while Mary Washington falls to 6-5-0 overall with a 1-1-0 record in league.
The Captains erased a three-game slide with the win and will look to keep the momentum up when they return to action on Tuesday, October 6 at Southern Virginia University. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 pm against the Knights.
Putting ten of their 15 shots on-frame, the Captains potent was on display Saturday, with five different players factoring into the scoring. CNU took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute as Mondloch set up rookie
Gabby Gillis for the first goal of the game. The assist was Mondloch's fourth of the season, tied for second in the Capital Athletic Conference, and her 14th career helper, tied for 8th most in program history.
The home team would tie the game in the 30th minute when senior Lizzie Weast scored on an assist by Marisa Madaras, but the Captains answered with a go-ahead score before halftime. With less than two minutes remaining, defender

Victoria Perry loose for a shot and the Captains' leading scorer made sure it was good for a 2-1 lead. The junior's 23rd career goal moves her into the Top 10 all-time in CNU women's soccer history, and gives her seven goals this season.
The two teams would trade opportunities over the course of the second half, but the score remained 2-1 heading into the final five minutes. Rookie
MiAsia Pinckney passed off to Mondloch for the score with just over three minutes to go. The insurance goal proved crucial as just 38 seconds later, Mary Washington tacked on a second goal off the unassisted foot of Kaitlyn Huggins.
