NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Coming off of back-to-back top-20 victories, the 14th-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will look to continue its winning ways on Saturday at 11 a.m. when CNU hosts Frostburg State in a Capital Athletic Conference battle on Homecoming weekend at Captains Turf Field.
On a three-game roll, Christopher Newport currently sports a 12-2 overall record, including a pristine 4-0 mark in conference action. Frostburg State enters the weekend at 8-7 overall with a 1-2 record in CAC play.

A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS Christopher Newport is currently ranked 12th in the NCAA with a 0.91 goals-against-average and boasts six shutouts, including a 1-0 triumph over No. 18 Catholic on Monday afternoon. Leading the defense,
Bailey Lien has a .764 save percentage and a 1.03 goals-against-average, which both rank among the league leaders. Meanwhile,
Brittan Muir has three defensive saves to help anchor the back line.
On the offensive end,
Lauren Cheatham has pieced together a stellar senior season and currently leads CNU with 19 points and seven assists.
Carol Thompson has also scored eight times, while
Alexa Weaver has six tallies. Overall, 10 Captains have at least two goals this season, including eight who are in either their first or second year of collegiate field hockey. Muir and
Lisa Murphy have also dished out four assists.
LAST TIME OUT On Wednesday, CNU took down No. 13 Mary Washington, 2-1, in Fredericksburg. Weaver drove home the game-winner in the second half, while
Rachael Allshouse added her third strike of the season in the first stanza. Cheatham also assisted on both goals, while Lien picked up the victory after making three saves for the Captains.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS Frostburg State enters Saturday after dropping a slim 4-3 decision to York on Wednesday in Maryland. The Bobcats have been led by Alexandra Darrow, who ranks first in the CAC and sixth in the NCAA with 21 goals. Jackie Best also has seven tallies and six assists, while Taylor Bowen boasts six helpers as well. On the defensive end, Jackie Gover has a .756 save percentage and a 2.81 goals-against-average for FSU.
SERIES HISTORY Frostburg State and CNU have met 13 times with the Captains holding a 12-1 edge in the all-time series. Last year, Christopher Newport posted a 2-1 victory in Maryland behind a game-winning, second-half goal by
Samantha Snider.
