No. 3 CNU Men's Soccer Travels to York (Pa.) For CAC Game Saturday

YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport, ranked No. 3 in the NSCAA National Rankings, will continue Capital Athletic Conference play this weekend, traveling to York College of Pennsylvania for a 3:00 pm kickoff against the Spartans. CNU enters the game unbeaten through the first ten games, carrying an 8-0-2 overall record against York, who has started the year with a 3-6-1 mark.

CNU opened up conference play last weekend with a 5-0 dismissal of Penn State Harrisburg, while York suffered a 2-0 setback to Salisbury in their league opener. Since that game, the Spartans have bounced out of a four-game losing streak with a 2-0 win at Lebanon Valley.

Heading into Saturday's matchup, the Spartans hold a small edge in the all-time series, going 6-4-4 against the Captains. The two teams have played to a tie in their last two matchups, including a 1-1 draw last season in Newport News. The Captains are 15-0-3 over their last 18 games, boasting the second longest unbeaten streak across all three NCAA Divisions, behind only 6th-ranked Calvin's 29-game run without a loss.

This year, junior Patrick Burns has been the scoring leader with 17 points on seven goals and three assists. Senior Ryan Balfour has eight points, including three game-winning goals and two assists. The offense is averaging 2.10 goals per game and boasts a tremendous .543 SOG percentage, with over 10 shots on-goal per game.

Defensively, senior goalkeeper Nolan Mann has allowed just seven goals in ten starts this year, boasting a 0.66 GAA and 75.9% save percentage. The Captains have shut out six of their first ten opponents, anchored by senior middle back Sean Christein. Junior Sammy Blosser has combined with sophomores Cameron Vaughn, Zach Douglass and freshman Bobby Seifert to handle most of the minutes on the back line.

York (Pa.) has been led by junior goalkeeper Charlie Johnson, who has played every second between the pipes this season. He has a 1.35 goals against average and a 74.5% save percentage with one shutout. Defensively, the Spartans have allowed 14 goals in their first 10 games.

On the offensive end, the Spartans have been shut out four times, but are averaging 1.30 goals per game. Greg Bechard leads the way with three goals and two assists, while Nigel Robinson and Brendan Saberton have combined for five more goals. Joel Teston, a sophomore forward, also has five points with a goal and team-high three assists.
