GREENCASTLE, Ind. --
The fourth-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will head to the Hoosier State this weekend for a pair of contests as the Captains will take on No. 20 DePauw on Saturday at noon before battling Wittenberg on Sunday at noon at Nick Mourouzis Field.

Entering the weekend with a 2-0 record, CNU will put its perfect mark on the line with a pair of early-season tests. DePauw also sits at a 2-0 on the year, while Wittenberg is 1-1. Both programs are members of the North Coast Athletic Conference, and DePauw is currently the defending league champion after the Tigers advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season.

For those fans unable to make it to Indiana, live stats will be available for both games this weekend. Direct links can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

Christopher Newport enters the weekend coming off of a 3-0 victory over No. 19 Lynchburg on Wednesday evening. During the game, Belle Tunstall notched her second consecutive three-point game and bumped her career total to 101 points, which equals the all-time program record. Taylor Williams and Lauren Cheatham also scored for the Captains to seal the victory.

Along with the team's offensive efforts, CNU's defense has been outstanding so far this season. The squad shut out its first two opponents of the year, marking the first time in program history that the team has opened a season with back-to-back blankings. Bailey Lien has been perfect in 105 minutes of action in goal, while Savanah Cummings registered a spotless second half during the season opener against Denison.

Similar to CNU, DePauw boasts a stout defensive unit which has yet to allow a goal this season. The Tigers blanked Hendrix, 7-0, in the season opener before upending Rhodes, 1-0, in double-overtime on Sunday. Maggie Steele has been at the forefront of the Tiger defense, starting both games in the cage while playing 133 minutes of scoreless ball.

On the offensive end, Reilly Bruce and Grace Fisher have both scored twice for DePauw, while Kate Jovanovic has three points as well. Paige Henry has also been strong this season and drove home the game-winner in double-overtime against Rhodes.

On Sunday, the Captains will take on Wittenberg, who is coming off of a 3-0 win over Bethany on Sunday. That victory followed a 2-1 setback to Washington & Jefferson in the season opener on August 29.

Wittenberg's Sarah Brownell has been impressive between the pipes, notching 13 saves in the early going. Kelly McLean has anchored the attack with two goals for the Tigers, while Beth Warning has three points. Kim Loofbourrow has been the chief facilitator with two assists.

Following this weekend's action, Christopher Newport will return home for a 6 p.m. showdown with Randolph-Macon at Captains Turf Field on Wednesday.
