WINCHESTER, Va. -- Sophomore Victoria Perry became the fifth player in program history to register multiple hat tricks in her career when she put away three scores against Shenandoah University (1-5-1) on Wednesday evening, leading the Captains to a 3-0 victory. CNU improved to 4-1-2, picking up the team's fourth shutout this season.

Taking on their former conference rivals from the USA South Athletic Conference, Christopher Newport shook up the starting lineup a bit, inserting rookie goalkeeper Carly Maglio for her third career start, and second-leading scorer Sarah Perrett into the starting lineup. Senior Erin O'Shaughnessy and sophomore Kate Hurlock also got the start, for the second time this season.

The Hornets came out firing early in the first half, forcing Maglio to make three stops in the first 31:09. Back-to-back attempts in the 20th minute proved to be the best chance of the day for Shenandoah when Danielle Burris and Lauren Johnson each put shots on-frame, but the rookie keeper stopped both attempts. Then, in the 32nd minute, Kati Richardson put one on-frame, only to be stopped again by the CNU netminder.

On the other end of the field, CNU finally got on the board in the 36th minute after peppering Shenandoah keeper Erin Septer with six shots in the first 36 minutes. Perry was set up by rookie Kimmie Kerstiens, for her team-leading third assist of the season. Just before heading into halftime, Perry would get CNU an insurance goal with her second tally of the match. Sophomore Allie McWilliams assisted on the scoring strike, which came at the 44:10 mark in the game.

Perry wrapped up her second hat trick of the season in the 65th minute. Nicole Pratt, who took over as goalkeeper at the half for Shenandoah, mis-played a loose ball and the CNU sophomore got to it first, chipping a shot over the keeper for her third and final score of the game. Her three-goal output matched her career-high from earlier this season versus DeSales. She joins a short list of former CNU women's soccer players to post multiple hat tricks in her career: Laura McFerrin did it in '99 and '00, Hillary Carney in '04 and '06, Sam Ciaravino three times in '09 and '10, and finally, Emma O'Reilly in '12. Perry's second of the season is the 20th hat trick in program history.

She continues to lead the league in scoring, with 20 points on nine goals and two assists. She added seven more shots on-goal in her eight attempts on Wednesday, running her impressive on-target percentage to 82.1% for the season (23-28).

Maglio made four saves in goal for CNU, wrapping up her second career shutout. She improved to 3-0 this season.

The Captains will remain on the road this weekend as they travel to Lynchburg College to take on the 8th-ranked Hornets at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 20.
