Christopher Newport enters the match-up on a two-game roll, including a 3-1 victory over Randolph-Macon at home last Wednesday. During that contest,
Lauren Cheatham opened the scoring with a first-half strike before
Sarah Miller and
Josie Morgan both added second-half goals to seal the win.
Bailey Lien led the defense with five stops in the cage, while
Alexa Hendrickson added a defensive save to stifle the Yellow Jackets.
Against Randolph-Macon,
Belle Tunstall also continued her assault on the record books after registering her 31st career assist. With that helper, she moved past Haylie Black and into the top spot on the program's career assists list. Earlier in the year, she also established a new mark for career points and enters Wednesday just four scores shy of equaling the all-time goals record as well.
So far this season, Tunstall leads the Captains with 10 points and four assists. Cheatham also has four goals, while
Taylor Williams has a pair. Well-balanced on the attack, eight other players have at least one point. Freshman
Carol Thompson headlines that group after collecting a goal and an assist during the early going.
On the defensive end, Christopher Newport already boasts three shutouts and has limited the opposition to just 0.77 goals-per-game.
Bailey Lien leads the defense with an .880 save percentage after making 22 saves in 276 minutes of action between the pipes.
Savanah Cummings has also been spotless in 67 minutes of work, while Hendrickson and Miller both have a pair of defensive saves.
Eastern Mennonite enters Wednesday coming off of a 2-1 victory over Bethany after starting the year 0-5. Senior Jenessa Derstine has anchored the offense with three goals, while Camille Williams has contributed five points. Hannah Daley has been the leader on the defensive end with a .761 save percentage and a 3.67 goals-against-average.
After Wednesday's contest, Christopher Newport will return home on Saturday for a top-10 showdown with No. 7 Tufts. Game time is slated for 11 a.m., and there will be a postgame clinic held afterwards for boys and girls ages 7-19. Additional information on the clinic can be found
