Live VideoNEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- After upending Lynchburg on Saturday, the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team returns to action on Tuesday when the squad hosts the top-ranked Salisbury Sea Gulls at 5 p.m. in a Capital Athletic Conference tilt at Captains Turf Field.
Following their victory against the Hornets, the Captains sit at 7-5 on the season, including 2-2 in league action. Salisbury, who enters Tuesday riding a 35-game winning streak, boasts a 12-0 record this year and 4-0 mark in the CAC.
Overall, the two programs have met 11 times with SU holding an unblemished record in those match-ups. The Sea Gulls won both meetings last year, including a 17-5 triumph in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Over the last week,
Ashton Marshall has been on fire for the Captains. In her last two appearances, the senior sensation has scored 12 goals to go along with four assists. Last Wednesday, she posted eight goals against Mary Washington, which marked the third-highest single-game total in CNU history. Then, on Saturday, she added four more against Lynchburg.
With that performance, Marshall bumped her career total to 225 goals, which stands as a new CNU record. She also ranks fifth in career scoring among active players at any level in the NCAA.
Not to be overlooked, freshman
Meaghan Galvin also collected six goals last week and has at least two scores in each of her 11 appearances this season. Fellow freshman
Erin Callahan also has 25 goals and a team-high 16 assists, while
Jessica Singer and
Kylie Chaplin have both scored at least 20 times this year.
On the defensive end,
Emily Johnson ranks second in the CAC with 28 caused turnovers and third with 38 ground balls.
Morgan Smith also ranks sixth in the league with 18 caused turnovers, while
Hanna Slough has a .496 save percentage and a 10.16 goals-against-average.
Salisbury has been led by reigning All-American goalie Ashton Wheatley, who has limited opponents to just 6.02 goals-per-game. The senior also boasts a .535 save percentage, which ranks second in the league. She has been helped by fellow senior Shelby Nemecek, who leads the team with 32 goals and 16 caused turnovers. Bethany Baer also has 26 goals and a team-high 25 draw controls.
