NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will cap off the 2014 regular season on Saturday when the squad hosts No. 12 York in a Capital Athletic Conference tilt at 1 p.m. at Captains Turf Field.

Riding a two-game roll, CNU enters the contest with a 9-6 record, including a 3-3 mark in conference action. York has won six straight games and stands at 12-3 on the year, including 5-1 in league play. With just one game remaining, the Spartans have already locked up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament, while the Captains will enter as either the No. 4 or No. 5 depending on the outcome of Saturday's league slate.

Although both teams were in the same regional last year during the NCAA Tournament, York and CNU have never faced each other in women's lacrosse.

In their last outing, the Captains stormed past Southern Virginia, 20-0. During the game, Ashton Marshall led the way with 11 points, including the 300th of her career. Jessica Singer also added seven points, while Kylie Chaplin had six. On the defensive end, Emily Johnson forced her record-breaking 82nd career caused turnover, while Hanna Slough made a pair of saves to earn the victory.

Closing in on the playoffs, Marshall currently leads the conference with 71 points and sits second with 51 goals. Erin Callahan also ranks fifth in the league with 21 assists, while Marshall is sixth with 20 and both Singer and Meaghan Galvin are tied in 10th with 17. Callahan, Galvin, and Singer rank among the top-10 in points as well.

On the defensive end, Slough leads the CAC with 145 saves and boasts a 10.08 goals-against-average. Johnson also has the second-most caused turnovers with 33 this year, and Morgan Smith sits sixth with 21 forced miscues.

Along with being the regular season finale, Saturday's game will also serve as Senior Day for the Captains. Prior to the contest, CNU will honor Johnson, Singer, Marshall, Smith, Autumn Dailey, and Jessica Kelly for their efforts over the last four seasons. Together, the six seniors have helped the program capture three straight USA South Championships and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time last year.

York is coming off of an 11-5 triumph over St. Mary's on Wednesday. During the game, Erica Mulford and Sarah Castle both posted hat-tricks for the Spartans, while Ashley Smith made 13 saves. Jocelyn Hudson also picked up five draw controls for the squad.

Smith has been outstanding for York, boasting a .541 save percentage and a 7.51 goals-against-average. Both of those totals rank second in the CAC. On the offensive end, Mulford has a team-best 31 goals and 40 points, while Megan Stine has dished out 19 assists. Castle has scored 21 times as well.
