CNU Women’s Lacrosse Heads to Marymount for a CAC Battle on Saturday at 2 p.m.

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Entering the final week of the regular season, the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will head to Marymount for a Capital Athletic Conference showdown on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Long Bridge Park.

Following a setback against top-ranked Salisbury on Tuesday, the Captains enter the weekend with a 7-6 record, including a 2-3 mark in league action. Marymount comes in at 8-4 overall with a 2-2 record in CAC play.

CNU and Marymount have not faced each other in women's lacrosse since 2006. Overall, the two programs have met five times with the Captains holding a 3-2 edge in the all-time series. Christopher Newport has won the last three meetings.

Since ripping off four straight victories in early March, the Captains have split their last eight decisions, including the setback against Salisbury on Tuesday. During that contest, Ashton Marshall scored four goals, while Erin Callahan chipped in with three assists to help pace the offense. Meaghan Galvin and Morgan Smith each forced a pair of turnovers as well.

So far this season, Marshall leads the team and ranks second in the CAC with 40 goals. Galvin also sits fifth in the league with 34 scores, while Callahan is tied for fourth with 19 assists. Boasting a well-balanced attack, CNU has four of the league's top-10 scorers. Along with Marshall, Galvin, and Callahan, Jessica Singer is 10th with 42 points.

On the defensive end, Emily Johnson is second in the conference with 29 caused turnovers, while Smith is fifth with 20. Hanna Slough has pieced together a strong season between the pipes, posting a CAC-leading 135 saves to go along with a 10.74 goals-against-average.

Marymount has been led by Taylor Johnson and Megan McGuirk, who both have 31 goals this season and are tied for seventh in the CAC in scoring. McGuirk also leads the Saints with 21 assists, while Jacki Belker and Molly Maher have 13 helpers apiece. Natalie Tinkham has a team-high 40 draw controls for MU as well.

On the defensive end, Kiki Niebuhr and Tylar Abrams have split time in goal. Together, the two have held the opposition to a 10.17 goals-against-average, while Abrams leads the conference with a .559 save percentage. Maher has been the top force along the back line, causing 36 turnovers during the year.
