Captains Tennis Wins First CAC Match Over Frostburg State, 9-0

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Sophomore Chiraag Shetty did not drop a game in either singles or doubles, helping lead the Captains to a dominant 9-0 victory over Frostburg State University (2-4, 0-2) in CAC action. The Captains improve to 7-4 on the season, and 1-0 in the CAC with the team's first ever win in league play.

Shetty had one of his finest performances of the season, first pairing with senior Joona Rahko at No. 2 doubles for a flawless 8-0 win over Colin Christian and Arun Pant. Then, in singles action, he faced Christian at the No. 3 position, cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 win. 

Rookie Arttu Fiva also had a straight-set 6-0, 6-0 win in singles, defeating Teron Tyre at the No. 5 position. Rookies Michael Dodd and Steven Boslet each dropped just one game at No. 6 and 2, respectively. 

Sam Thomson grabbed his team-leading ninth win of the spring, and his third at the No. 1 spot. He faced off against Brandon Hall and pulled away with a 6-4, 6-0 win. 

In doubles action, Thomson and Boslet defeated Hall and Kenneth Alban at the top spot, 8-1, while Fiva and Dodd also picked up an 8-1 win at No. 3, defeating Tyre and Gilbert Kim.

The Captains were scheduled to also face off against NCAA Division I College of Charleston, but the match was canceled due to inclement weather. CNU will now travel to Haverford College for their next match, taking on the Fords this Friday, March 28 at 4:00 pm.
