VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. --
After wrapping up a three-game homestand with back-to-back victories last week, the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will head out on the road on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. non-conference showdown at Virginia Wesleyan.

Entering the contest with a 2-2 record, CNU picked up victories over Randolph-Macon and Redlands last week. Virginia Wesleyan also boasts a 2-2 mark, including a pair of road wins at Meredith and Sweet Briar.

For those fans unable to make it out to Wednesday's action, the Marlins will provide live stats and a web stream of the game. Direct links to those features can be found on the women's lacrosse schedule page and at the top of this release.

The oldest non-conference rivalry in program history, CNU and Virginia Wesleyan have battled 13 times with the Marlins holding a slim 7-6 edge in the all-time series. However, the Captains have been especially successful lately, winning the last five meetings. Last year, the squad captured a 20-5 victory in Newport News following an 11-8 triumph in Virginia Beach in 2012.

This year, Christopher Newport has received outstanding production from its youngest members. Freshman Erin Callahan leads the squad with 13 goals and 10 assists, while her 23 points are currently the most in the Capital Athletic Conference. Fellow first-year standout Meaghan Galvin is tied for second on the team with 15 points and leads the way with 21 draw controls and 14 ground balls.

Among the veteran contingent, Kylie Chaplin is tied for the team-lead with 13 goals, while seniors Jessica Singer and Ashton Marshall have scored 10 times apiece. On the defensive end, Hannah Slough has an 11.11 goals-against-average and a .505 save percentage, while Emily Johnson has caused 10 turnovers and scooped up 11 ground balls.

Virginia Wesleyan has averaged 11 goals per game this season, including a huge 23-goal outburst against Sweet Briar last Saturday. Stacey Sank led the way with five goals against the Vixens, while Natalie Furey had four. Overall this year, Candace Carey leads the squad with nine goals, while Brooke Cabeceiras and Summer Moore have tallied seven scores apiece.

On the defensive end, Madison Carroll has an 11.85 goals-against-average and 41 saves this season. Kelly Jacobson has also forced 12 turnovers, while Amari Agee has caused 10.
