CNU Hosts Mary Washington Wednesday Night...Game Times Changed to 5 and 7 P.M.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- Christopher Newport hosts a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader Wednesday night against Mary Washington at the Freeman Center.

Due to predicted snowfall late Wednesday night, the game times have been moved up. The women's game will now begin at 5 p.m. followed by the men's game at 7 p.m.

The CNU women are now ranked 12th in the nation, moving up from 13th last week. The Captains have won 14 in a row and are now 19-2 overall and 11-1 in the CAC...tied with York at the top of the standings.

Christopher Newport is coming off a dominating performance on Saturday in a 73-33 win at Wesley. Senior Tia Perry led the way with 20 points, while junior Camry Green posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Mary Washington enters play with a 14-7 overall mark and a 7-6 record in conference action. The Eagles are coming off a home loss to Salisbury on Saturday in double overtime, 84-79.

Earlier this year, the Captains won over the Eagles in Fredericksburg. CNU prevailed, 64-43, on January 15th. The Captains now lead the all-time series, 23-16.

On the men's side, the Captains are coming off a tough road loss at Wesley on Saturday, 66-63. CNU led by two at the half, 37-35, but shot just 32 percent from the field in the second half and fell to the Wolverines for the second time this season.

Junior Mike Cherry, who went over the 1,000 point mark earlier this season, poured in 24 points to lead the Captains Saturday. Cherry is now 26th on the school's all-time scoring list.

Senior Tra Benefield, who scored 14 points, was the only other CNU player in double figures. Benefield also posted a team-high eight rebounds in Saturday's defeat. Benefield is currently seventh on the school's all-time scoring list.

CNU is now 14-7 overall and 6-6 in the Capital. Mary Washington enters play Wednesday with a mark of 18-3 overall and 11-2 in the CAC. The Eagles are also coming off a loss last Saturday, 81-71, to Salisbury in Fredericksburg.

Mary Washington defeated the Captains on January 15th in Fredericksburg, 76-65. CNU now leads the all-time series, 18-5.
