CNU Field Hockey Hosts Bridgewater on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Following a three-game road swing, the Christopher Newport field hockey team will return home on Wednesday evening when CNU hosts Bridgewater in a non-conference showdown at 7 p.m. at Captains Turf Field.

The Captains, who stand at 6-4 on the season, are looking to bounce back after a pair of 1-0 setbacks against No. 14 Catholic and York (Pa.) last week. Bridgewater enters the game at 6-6 but boasts a 4-1 record on the road.

Although Christopher Newport dropped its two games last week, the Captains continued to put on an impressive defensive display as the squad held its opponents to just two combined goals. Overall, the squad ranks eighth in the nation with an .833 save percentage and 23rd with a 1.10 goals-against-average. Overall, CNU has outscored its opposition, 24-11, this season.

On an individual level, Savanah Cummings leads the team with an .889 save percentage and a 0.92 goals-against-average during her 293 minutes in the cage. Bailey Lien also boasts a team-high 26 saves to go along with a 1.87 goals-against-average during her 385 minutes of work. Sarah Miller and Alexa Hendrickson have also contributed a pair of defensive saves for the Captains.

On the offensive end, Belle Tunstall has paced CNU with 16 points, including five goals. Taylor Williams has also scored four times, while Carol Thompson sits second on the team with three assists. Thompson and Allie Hackbarth also have two goals apiece.

Bridgewater enters Wednesday after dropping a 4-3 overtime decision against Lynchburg on Friday. Caroline Augsburger, who had a goal and assist against the Hornets, boasts a team-high 21 points so far this season. Taylor Prillaman also has seven goals, while Rachel Loy has contributed five assists. On the defensive end, Amanda Harper has started nine games between the pipes and compiled a .701 save percentage. Katherine Ellis has also registered four defensive saves this year.

After Wednesday's game, Christopher Newport will wrap up its brief two-game homestand with a noon battle against CAC foe Wesley on Saturday.
