NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Looking to run their unbeaten streak to nine, the 13th-ranked Christopher Newport men's soccer team will host Southern Virginia University (4-8-0, 1-1-0) at 7:30 pm Tuesday night. The Captains (10-1-2, 1-0-1) will take on the Knights at approximately 7:30 pm as part of a doubleheader with the women's teams kicking off at 5:30 pm.

The Captains have won three straight and have not lost in nearly a month, going 6-0-2 over the last eight games. The offense has continued to be a huge strength for head coach
Steve Shaw, led by senior All-American
Jalon Brown and reigning CAC Offensive Player of the Week
Patrick Burns. The sophomore forward has factored into six of the last seven goals for CNU, while Brown leads the league in scoring with 26 points so far.Â
The CNU offense ranks seventh nationally in goals scored this season, with 36, and 30th nationally in scoring offense with a 2.77 goals per game average. Burns has chipped in a league-high nine assists already this season, ranking fourth nationally. While Brown and Burns lead the way, seventeen different Captains have registered at least one point this season for one of the most potent attacks in the region.Â

Sam Lesko have split time to lead the way to a 1.26 team goals against average through the first 13 games. Playing behind a strong defensive line that includes seniors
Alec Faulkner,
Tommy O'Neal and
Stephen Landry, the CNU defense is holding opponents to under nine shots per game.Â
Coming into Tuesday night's matchup witht he Captains, the Southern Virginia Knights have bounced back off a rough start to win three of their last five games. Back-to-back wins included the first league victory versus Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday, capturing a 2-1 victory over the Lions. Sophomore Carlos Munoz (4g, 1a), junior Erik Gutierrez (3g, 2a) and rookie Carter Woods (4g) lead the offense so far this season. The young team features just one senior and two juniors.
After taking on Southern Virginia, the Captains will travel to Frostburg State University for a league matchup on Saturday, October 11 at 2:00 pm.
