No. 13 CNU Men's Soccer Set to Play a Pair This Weekend

DOVER, Del. -- The 13th-ranked Christopher Newport men's soccer team has adjusted the schedule for this weekend, and will now play a pair of games starting with a conference game Friday night at Wesley College. The Captains, originally scheduled to play the Wolverines on Saturday, moved up the game to Friday night to open up an opportunity play a makeup game versus Randolph College on Sunday. Friday night's conference game at Wesley will kick off at 7:00 pm, and CNU will host the WildCats on Sunday at 6:00 pm.

First, in the second conference game of the season, CNU will look to get in the win column for the first time while adding to an 8-1-2 overall record this season. It is the first trip in program history to Scott D. Miller Stadium on the campus of Wesley College, taking on a team that is 5-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the CAC. It will be just the third all-time matchup, with the first two coming last season as CNU won, 3-0, in the regular season, and 3-2 in the CAC Tournament.

The Wolverines feature 2013 CAC Rookie of the Year Will Mileski leading the offense with 14 points on four goals and six assists. Fellow sophomore Eman Amao is also in double figures for Wesley, scoring 10 points on four goals and two assists. The offense is averaging 1.7 goals per game, but have been held to one goal or less in each of their last five contests. After starting the year 4-1, Wesley has gone just 1-2-1 in their last four games.

On Sunday, the CNU men's soccer team will close out its non-conference regular season with a home game against the Randolph College WildCats (5-2-2) at 6:00 pm. The game, originally scheduled for September 10, is being made up after it was canceled due to inclement weather earlier this season. It is just the second all-time meeting between the two programs, as Randolph captured the win in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, 2-1.

This season, Randolph sophomore Blake Heatherly has scored a team-high four goals with five assists for 13 points to lead the offense, but the WildCats have a sensational defense through the first nine games of the year. Randolph has allowed just five goals this season, led by junior goalkeeper C.J. Stevens, who has played over 800 minutes of action. He has posted a 0.56 goals against average with an 85.7% save percentage and 30 saves. In six of the team's nine games this season, Randolph has picked up a shutout, including two straight heading into Sunday's contest with the Captains.

Leading the nationally-ranked Captains this season has been two-time league Player of the Year Jalon Brown, scoring nine goals and adding three assists for a league-high 21 points. Sophomore Patrick Burns has chipped in 17 points, powered by an impressive seven assists already this year. The second-year forwards ranks in the top ten nationally with seven helpers, helping rank CNU's scoring offense as the 29th-best in the nation.
