CNU Women's Soccer Hosts Regular Season Home Finale Versus Mary Washington Wednesday at 7:00 pm

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The first-place CNU women's soccer team will close out the home schedule on Wednesday night, as they look to add to their sterling 6-0 record in Capital Athletic Conference play when they host the University of Mary Washington (8-5-2, 2-3-1) at 7:00 pm. The Captains are 10-3-2 overall and moved up a spot in the NSCAA South-Atlantic Regional Rankings this week, after winning six of their last seven games.

Live stats will be available of the game, and a live video webcast will also be available weather permitting. Both links can be found at www.cnusports.com/live.

Moving up to No. 7 in this week's regional rankings, the Captains have been scalding on both sides of the ball, outscoring opponents 20-4 in the last seven games. Leading the charge has been CAC Offensive Player of the Week Victoria Perry, who took over the league's scoring lead with a 10-point performance last week. She scored a pair of goals and added an assist in each of CNU's last two games, and has eclipsed the 30-point plateau for the first time in her career. With 32 points, she not only leads the league, but also has matched last season's team high with three games left to spare in the regular season. She trails the top five single season marks in CNU Women's Soccer history by just three, and the all-time record by 11 points.

While Perry has been the catalyst, a quintet of CNU players have already reached double figure points this season. Senior Sarah Perrett is second with seven goals and an assist for 15 points, while midfielder Joy Piirto has come on strong late in the season with 14 points on six goals and two assists. Rounding out the top five scorers for the Captains are rookie Kimmie Kerstiens, with 12 points on four goals and four assists, and junior Lindsay Mondloch, with 10 points on three goals and four assists.

Defensively, the Captains have been equally as strong over the last seven games, posting four shutouts and allowing just four goals. The team's goals-against average has dipped to 0.84, while rookie Carly Maglio and sophomore Haley Casanova continue to split time in net. Casanova has started each of the last three contests and boasts a 0.78 GAA with a save percentage closing in on 76%. Playing in front of the keepers, sophomore Sam Rabinek and senior Kelsey Thomas play on the back line with a pair of freshmen, Carly Melkus and Kira Warner. The group has held opponents to just 7.4 shots per game, including a paltry 3.5 on-frame.

Heading into Wednesday's night game, the Eagles are looking to bounce back into the win column after a 1-3-1 slide over the last four games. Mary Washington started the year 6-1-1, but has just two wins since the hot start, dropping their overall record to 8-5-2. Rookie Anna Manser leads the offense with six goals so far, while juniors Lizzie Weast and Jessica Bednarcik each have four points.

After the game, CNU will turn its focus to the road, as they will close out the regular season schedule at Frostburg State on Oct. 25 and at Salisbury on Oct. 29.
