Web StreamSALISBURY, Md. -- The Christopher Newport field hockey team will look to continue its two-game roll on Tuesday when the Captains head to Salisbury for a Capital Athletic Conference showdown with the top-ranked Sea Gulls at 6 p.m.
CNU enters the game with an 8-4 record, including a 1-1 mark in CAC action. Salisbury comes into the week at 10-1 overall and 1-0 in league play. Longtime rivals, the two programs have met 15 times with SU holding a 12-3 lead in the all-time series. Last season, the Captains posted a 3-2 victory in the regular season before dropping a 1-0 double-overtime decision during the CAC Championship.

The Captains enter the game after registering shutout victories against Bridgewater and Wesley last week. During the contests,
Savanah Cummings was spotless between the pipes, posting 13 saves while collecting her first two collegiate shutouts.
Alexa Hendrickson also chipped in with a crucial defensive save against Wesley during the 1-0 triumph on Saturday.
On the offensive end,
Alexa Weaver and
Taylor Williams both found the back of the cage against Bridgewater before
Sarah Miller drove home the game-winner with a second-half strike against Wesley.
Allie Hackbarth and
Madison Doss also notched assists for the Captains.
Overall this season, Williams and
Belle Tunstall are tied for the team-lead with five goals apiece. Tunstall has also contributed a team-best six assists, while
Carol Thompson has added three helpers. Incredibly, 14 different Captains have tallied at least one point this season, including four freshmen.
On the defensive end, Cummings leads CNU with a .925 save percentage and a 0.62 goals-against-average during her 433 minutes of work.
Bailey Lien has also compiled 26 saves and a 4-2 record during her time in goal as well.
Salisbury comes into Tuesday's battle after splitting its last two contests. The Sea Gulls dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 12 Catholic last Tuesday before bouncing back with a 5-0 victory over Frostburg State on Saturday. During the two contests, Abbey Shobe led the Sea Gulls with three goals, while Mallory Elliott contributed a pair of assists.
So far this season, Elliott leads the CAC with 13 assists, while Courtney Jantzen ranks second in the league with 13 goals and 32 points. Samantha Johnson has also scored 10 times and posted seven assists for the Sea Gulls. On the defensive end, Rachel Clewer ranks second in the conference with a 1.06 goals-against-average. The senior has recorded a .744 save percentage as well.
Following Tuesday's tilt, Christopher Newport will return home for a two-game stretch beginning with a 6 p.m. showdown with Centre on Friday.
