CNU Hosts Marymount Saturday in Capital Athletic Conference Doubleheader

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- Christopher Newport hosts Marymount University Saturday in a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader. The women's game begins at 2 p.m. followed by the men's action at 4 p.m.

The CNU women, ranked 19th in the nation, carry a seven-game winning streak into Saturday's play. The Captains are coming off a decisive win at Mary Washington Wednesday night, 64-43. Bill Broderick's squad is now 12-2 overall and 5-1 in the Capital Athletic Conference.

With her last bucket of the first half Wednesday night, senior Nicole Mitchell became the 25th player in program history to score 1,000 points. Mitchell went on to score 14 points in the victory, moving up to 22nd all-time at CNU.

Marymount's women's squad is also off to a 5-1 start in the CAC, while posting a 9-5 overall mark. The battle with the Captains will be for sole possession of second place in the league standings, behind undefeated York College.

The men's action also promises to be exciting, as both squads have put up impressive numbers. The Captains are 10-4 overall and 3-3 in CAC play. John Krikorian's squad has lost three in a row, most recently a 76-65 defeat at Mary Washington on Wednesday night.

Marymount has won its last three, including a 70-40 triumph at home Wednesday night over Penn State Harrisburg. The Saints are 11-3 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

Tickets for the doubleheader will be available at the Freeman Center Ticket Office prior to the games.
