CNU Men's Soccer Travels to No. 17 Roanoke College Saturday

SALEM, Va. -- On Saturday night, the Captains will travel for a tough test, rounding out a five-game road swing at 17th-ranked Roanoke College (5-0). Live stats and live video are available of the 7:00 pm kickoff, with links found at CNUsports.com.

Christopher Newport (3-2-1) is coming off a pair of wins against former USA South foes Methodist and N.C. Wesleyan. Against the Bishops, junior Jalon Brown pieced together one of the finest games in his career, scoring his first career hat trick. The leading scorer in the Capital Athletic Conference has scored six goals and added one assist for 13 points in the first six games.

Sophomore Ryan Balfour has added two goals and an assist for five points to start the year, and four other Captains have lit up the scoreboard throughout the year. On the defensive side of the ball, CNU has split time at goalkeeper between senior Sean Killion and sophomore Nolan Mann. Killion has posted a pair of shutouts and boasts a 0.64 goals against average.

Roanoke has raced out to a solid start this season, winning all five games by outscoring opponents 13-7. Sophomore All-Region midfielder Tyler Carbaugh has led the potent attack, scoring three goals and adding three assists for nine total points. Ten different players have scored at least one point for head coach Ryan Pflugrad, in his first year with the Maroons.

The No. 17 Maroons will be the second ranked team CNU has faced in the five-game road trip. The game will kick-off at 7:00 pm.
