Match Box Score

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- In the final home regular season match of his career, senior Kyle Tobin came away with the match-clinching victory on Sunday, as he helped lead the Captains to a 5-4 win over Methodist University (16-2, 6-2). In a battle of two regionally-ranked conference rivals, positioning for seeding in next week's conference tournament, the Captains prevailed with their 12th straight win.

CNU improves to 13-4 overall this year, with a 7-1 record against league opponents. Methodist will take the number three seed as the Captains secured the second-seed and will play #7 LaGrange in the opening round of the conference tournament on Friday, April 12.

Senior Robbie Wagner paired with Tobin at No. 2 doubles as they got the Captains their first point of the afternoon. The tandem earned an 8-4 win over Robert Clayton and Greg Patterson, which was followed by an 8-4 win at No. 3 by Joey Manilla and Will Sloan

With a 2-1 lead headed into singles, CNU pulled ahead 4-2 behind wins from Chiraag Shetty at No. 1 and Joey Manilla at No. 3. It was then that Tobin fought off a set one loss to power back for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles and clinch the win on Senior Day.

CNU will close out the regular season on Tuesday, April 9 as they travel to Salisbury University for non-conference action. Then, they will turn their focus to the USA South Tournament for their first match scheduled at 9:00 am on Friday.
