GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will look to keep its momentum when the squad travels to Greensboro for a 7 p.m. showdown with the Pride on Tuesday evening at Jamieson Stadium.
With just two more regular season games remaining, CNU currently sports a 6-8 record. Greensboro comes into play with a 5-9 mark, including a pair of victories in the team's last three games.
On Saturday, the Captains snapped a four-game skid with a 12-7 victory over Saint Vincent. During the contest,
John Thompson led the way with five points, which bumped his season total to 47. That stands as the program's single-season record, topping Britt Hoover's 44-point performance during the 2010 campaign.
Making a name for himself during his first year in Newport News, freshman
Alex Barber leads CNU with 19 goals and has also chipped in with six assists.
Aaron Chrzaszcz also has 15 goals this season, while
Will Geise has found the back of the net 11 times, including twice against Saint Vincent.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Andy McGregor ranks in the top-50 nationally with a 7.76 goals-against-average. His .586 save percentage is the 52nd best mark in the country as well.
Teddy Pekalski has also chipped in with 19 caused turnovers, while
Ari Elgort has 74 faceoff victories, highlighted by a 14-for-23 performance on Saturday.
Really balanced on the offensive end, Greensboro has six players with at least 10 goals, including Justin Pearson who leads the team with 17. Scott Schowalter also has 15 scores and nine assists, while Mitchell Kanowicz has anchored the defense with a .533 save percentage and a 9.82 goals-against-average. Tracey Armstrong also leads the team with 32 caused turnovers and 45 ground balls.
Easing towards the end of the regular season, Christopher Newport will wrap up with a 1 p.m. battle at Ferrum on Saturday.
