CNU Men's Tennis Drops Averett in Conference Action, 9-0

DANVILLE, Va. -- CNU lost just two games against Averett University (0-9, 0-5) on Friday, breezing to their tenth win of the yearwith a 9-0 victory in USA South Athletic Conference action. The Captains (10-4, 5-1) were led by Kyle Tobin, who picked up his second win at No. 1 singles this year. 

Averett, competing with just five players, found themselves in an early 2-0 hole with forfeits at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. CNU made the lead 4-0 with a couple 8-0 wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles. 

The Captains rookie tandem of Chiraag Shetty and Joona Rahko defeated Alexander Terentiev and Julius Noreila at the top spot, and Robbie Wagner played with Tobin for the win over Ryan Atkins and Vili Korpela at No. 2. 

In singles play, Tobin played Terentiev at the top spot, taking a 6-0, 6-1 win for the Captains. Joey Manilla beat Noreila at No. 2 (6-0, 6-0), Rahko dropped Atkins at No. 3 (6-0, 6-1) and Will Sloan stepped in for the win at No. 4 over Korpela (6-0, 6-0). The final CNU win came from Lloyd Luck, at No. 5, dropping Matias Partanen (6-0, 6-0) for the sweep. 

CNU is back in action on Saturday, as the Captains travel to Bridgewater College for a match at Noon.
