Men’s Lacrosse Travels to Randolph for a 3:30 p.m. Match-Up on Saturday

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Narrowly dropping their season opener last week, the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will look to respond on Saturday when the squad travels to Randolph College for a 3:30 p.m. match-up at WildCat Stadium.

One week ago, CNU (0-1) fell to Washington & Lee, 12-9, in the squad's season opener. After holding a 5-2 halftime lead, the Captains could not withstand a seven-goal third period by the Generals, who went on to defeat top-ranked Salisbury in their very next game. Randolph enters Saturday's action with a 1-1 record after upending Southern Virginia before falling to Ferrum.

The Captains and WildCats have battled four times with CNU holding a pristine 4-0 mark in those meetings. Last season, Christopher Newport secured an 18-4 victory in Newport News. Current assistant coach John Glaser helped bolster the team's offensive attack during the game, scoring four goals to go along with an assist.

Making an impressive season debut last weekend, sophomore John Thompson scored three goals and added an assist to lead the CNU attack. Aaron Chrzaszcz also scored twice for the Captains, while Chase Walton and Gregory Limon each chipped in with a goal and an assist against the Generals.

Andy McGregor helped anchor the defense, posting 12 saves for Christopher Newport. Walton and Brenden Dwyer also caused a pair of turnovers during the game, while Ari Elgort collected a team-high five ground balls.

Coming off of a 12-8 setback against Ferrum, Randolph is also looking to rebound this weekend. The WildCats are led by junior midfielder Colton Wood, who leads the team with seven goals. Bobby Crosby has also tacked on six goals and a pair of assists, while Andrew Gletiz is third on the squad with five goals.

On the defensive end, freshman Cam Davis has played every minute in goal for Randolph and currently boasts 25 saves and an 8.50 goals-against-average. John Grundy has anchored the team's efforts in the middle of the field, winning 21 of his 29 faceoff attempts.

Next up, Christopher Newport will head to Ashland, Virginia on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest against Randolph-Macon. Three days later, the Captains will make their home debut on Saturday when the squad welcomes Mary Washington to town at 1 p.m.
