18th-Ranked CNU Men's Basketball Hosts Pitt-Greensburg Monday Night at the Freeman Center

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- The Christopher Newport University men's basketball squad plays for the final time in 2013 Monday night. The 18th-ranked Captains host the Bobcats of Pitt-Greensburg at the Freeman Center. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. for the non-conference battle.

CNU, 8-1 on the season, is riding a five-game winning streak. The Captains are off to the best start since the 2001-2002 season when CNU opened the year 14-1.

The Bobcats are 5-4, and have won five of their last six games since an 0-3 start. It will be the first meeting ever of the two schools.

The game will be the 200th overall as a head coach for CNU's John Krikorian, who has won 136 times and lost just 63 for a career winning percentage of .683. Krikorian spent his first four seasons as a head coach at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and is now in his fourth season on the Captains sideline.

Christopher Newport last played on December 18th, a 56-47 home win over Salisbury. The victory improved CNU's record in the Capital Athletic Conference to 2-0. Senior Tra Benefield again led the CNU attack, scoring 23 points. Benefield is now averaging 20.3 points per game, and is 8th on the school's all-time scoring list.
