ARLINGTON, Va. – After securing the top seed in the Capital Athletic Conference playoffs with its victory on Wednesday, the Christopher Newport volleyball team will look to continue its late-season push and wrap up the regular season in style with a tri-match against Marymount and No. 20 Stevenson on Saturday.
The Captains enter the weekend with a 20-12 record, including a perfect 7-0 mark in conference action. Marymount is 18-11 overall and currently tied for third in the league standings with a 5-2 record in league tilts. Stevenson enters the weekend at 32-1.

Absolutely terrific over the past month,
Briana Sutton has been a dominant force on the outside for the Captains. The reigning CAC Player of the Week has a team-high 237 kills this year, including eight double-digit efforts in her last 12 matches. On Wednesday, she continued her run after pummeling Mary Washington with 12 kills while hitting at a .276 clip.
Not to be overlooked,
Chastity Lacy has also been disruptive along the front line and leads the conference with a 1.17 blocks-per-set average. She has recorded at least five blocks in 12 contests this year and is only the fourth Captain in program history with at least 100 rejections in back-to-back seasons.
Two other Captains also have at least 70 blocks as freshman
Hannah Miller has turned away 82 attack attempts, while
Rachel Conway has 72. In addition to their defensive efforts, Miller also ranks third on the team with 193 kills, and Conway leads the squad with 621 assists. She also notched her second double-double of the year with 36 helpers and 11 digs on Wednesday against Mary Washington.
In a group effort along the back row, five Captains have at least 150 digs, including a team-high 306 by
Rachel Close.
Brooke Moore has also stepped up with 289 digs and collected at least 10 in four straight matches.
Coming into the weekend looking to secure the third seed in the upcoming playoffs, Marymount has stumbled a bit recently and dropped three of its last five decisions. However, the Saints did pick up a 3-2 victory in their last outing against St. Mary's on Wednesday.
Anchoring the offense, Morgan McAlpin has 284 kills to go along with a .296 hitting percentage, and Erin Allison has 257 blasts as well. Brianne Fitzpatrick has been the primary setter with an 8.36 assists-per-set average, while Cassidie Watson has been the top back row player with a 4.58 digs-per-set mark.
Vaulting into the national spotlight, Stevenson has lost only one contest all year and currently boasts a nine-match winning streak after suffering its only setback against Eastern on October 5. Their success this year comes on the heels of a run to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season.
Exciting along the net, the Mustangs have four players with at least 200 kills, including Imani Hudson, who has a team-high 310. Megan Miller also has 219 and a team-high .400 hitting percentage, while Jessica Gieselman has paced the attack with an 11.72 assists-per-set average. Samantha Perillo has led the back row with 551 digs.
