NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's soccer team cruised to a 6-0 victory over Penn State Harrisburg during a Capital Athletic Conference clash on a sun-soaked Saturday afternoon at Captains Field.

During the contest, CNU was led by a well-balanced attack, which featured six players who scored their first goals of the year.
Caitlyn Pabst chipped in with a goal and an assist, while
Shaydah Naraghi got things going with an early first-half score.
Sarah Perrett,
Kaitlyn Bly,
Leah Widdifield, and
Madelyn Stephens also found the back of the net to lead the Captains to their second straight victory.

Overall, Christopher Newport now stands at 7-2-1 on the season, including a pristine 2-0 in conference action. Penn State Harrisburg is now 5-6 with an 0-2 mark in the CAC.

Controlling the tempo throughout the game, the Captains rarely let the ball sneak across midfield as the squad peppered the Lion defense. Although the visitors held up during the early part of the contest, CNU opened the scoring at 13:06.
Emma O'Reilly collected the ball and stormed down the near side of the field before sending a perfect feed to Naraghi, who was camped out along the far post. In a flash, the sophomore lit up the scoreboard after unloading a dart to the back of the net.

With an early advantage, the Captains quickly tacked on a pair of insurance goals during the latter part of the first period. Just over 28 minutes into the game,
Abby Johnson floated a teardrop that fell nicely in front of Perrett. Separating herself from the defense, the junior broke free and blistered a shot into the corner of the goal for a 2-0 edge. Five minutes later, Pabst closed out the first-half scoring after depositing a cross from
Allie McWilliams at point-blank range.

Carrying a 3-0 lead into the second half, Christopher Newport continued to pressure the Lions. Although Mackenzie Gates did a commendable job in the net for Penn State Harrisburg, the Captains never relented. After posting her first career goal to wrap up the first half, Pabst kicked off the second stanza with a gorgeous feed to Bly, who immediately hammered home the second goal of her career at 74:27.

Still rolling with a 4-0 edge, the hosts collected two more goals in the final 10 minutes to wrap up an impressive effort. Widdifield added the fifth score following a cross by
Ali Via before Stephens capped off the scoring with one last rocket just before time expired to close out the 6-0 victory.

Overall, Christopher Newport held a 36-0 edge in shots and an 8-0 lead in corner kicks. Gates collected 15 saves for the Lions, while the CNU defense kept the zone clean for
Haley Casanova as the freshman keeper locked down her seventh win of the year and the squad's fifth shutout.

CNU will return to action on Tuesday when the Captains head to Southern Virginia for a 6 p.m. showdown.
