ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- Sailing to a perfect 11-0 record, the 10th-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will put its winning streak on the line when the Captains square off with St. Mary's in a Capital Athletic Conference clash at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at Seahawk Stadium.
Marching into the game with an 11-game winning streak, CNU will face another squad that has been rolling recently. St. Mary's has ripped off seven straight victories and comes into Saturday with a 7-2 overall record.
Historically, the two programs have battled nine times with Christopher Newport holding a 7-2 edge in those meetings. Despite the long history, the teams have not competed since 2009 when the Captains posted a 3-1 victory.

The Captains enter the weekend after picking up their most impressive victory of the season with a 3-2 come-from-behind win against No. 18 Catholic on Saturday.
Belle Tunstall collected a goal and two assists during the game, while
Marlene Lichty scored and added a helper as well.
Lauren Cheatham rounded out the scorers with her team-leading 12th goal of the year.
Sound on the defensive end, Christopher Newport ranks among the top-10 nationally in goals-against-average, save percentage, and defensive saves. Freshman
Bailey Lien has been at the forefront of that effort, ranking among the top-five nationally with an .870 save percentage and a 0.65 goals-against-average.
Chelsea Hines also sits 11th in the country with five defensive saves.
Making a nice run over the last few weeks, St. Mary's has shut out its last two opponents and allowed one goal or less in four of its previous five contests. Bolstered by those efforts, the Seahawks rank among the top-50 nationally in nearly every statistical category, including 33rd overall in scoring margin.
Coming into the weekend, Brady Wolf has been SMC's top offensive threat with nine goals and 20 points. The reigning CAC Player of the Week has also contributed two assists this season. On the defensive end, Christy Bishop has started every game in the cage and pieced together an .823 save percentage and a 1.30 goals against average.
