ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- With the postseason tournament seeding all decided, there was still one regular season game left to be played. The Christopher Newport Captains (12-5-1, 6-2-0) made sure not to look past the St. Mary's College (Md.) Seahawks (5-10-2, 2-6-0) on Wednesday, picking up a shutout in the finale, 3-0. CNU will now turn their attention to the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament, as they host Wesley College in the Quarterfinals on Saturday, November 2.

CNU outshot the home team, 25-5, in the game, including a 9-3 edge in shots on-goal. With 16 shots in the first half, the Captains took a 3-0 lead at halftime and cruised to the shutout win.

Junior defender Tommy O'Neal scored the gamewinner just 9:36 into the contest, when Jalon Brown set him up for the tally. On a free kick just outside the top of the box, Brown left a short pass for O'Neal who smoked a hard shot past the St. Mary's keeper.

O'Neal's goal was his fourth of the season, while Brown added his league-leading ninth assist of the year.

CNU tacked on two more goals in the last ten minutes of the opening stanza, as senior Caleb Lewis and sophomore Mark Brewington added the insurance goals. Lewis scored on an unassisted strike in the 36th minute while Brewington put away a volley off a cross by Garrett Van Nutt

Lewis scored his third goal of the year while Brewington's second tally rounded out the scoring for CNU. In the game, 12 different Captains took a shot and eight different players put shot on-frame. Defensively, senior Sean Killion and sophomore Nolan Mann split the shutout, combining for three saves in the contest.

CNU wraps up the regular season with a 12-5-1 mark overall and will be the number three seed in the conference tournament. The quarterfinal matchup will be held at Captains Field on Saturday, November 2 at 6:00 pm against the Wesley Wolverines. Live stats and a live video webcast will be available at CNUsports.com.
