NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport men's soccer clinched a home game in the first round of their first ever Capital Athletic Conference Tournament with a 3-1 win over Penn State Harrisburg (3-12-1, 0-7-0) on Saturday night. League-leading scorer Jalon Brown scored twice, and junior Alec Faulkner netted the gamewinner in the come-from-behind victory on Senior Night.

CNU (11-5-1, 5-2-0) holds the tiebreaker over Mary Washington and Frostburg State with just one game left in the regular season. The CAC Tournament will begin next Saturday, November 2 with game time to be determined.

The Lions would actually get on top early on their first shot of the contest. A hustle play by Jonathan Vanaskie saved a ball on the goal line and had an open pass to the top of the box for Nana Nyantekyi. Nyantekyi's shot skipped across the ground underneath the outstretched arms of CNU keeper Sean Killion and Penn State Harrisburg took the lead in the 10th minute.

Brown would even the score with less than 15 minutes remaining in the first half, on an unassisted tally in the 32nd minute. Brown had a look from the middle of the box and scooted a low shot into the left corner.

Just eight minutes later, a foul was called in the box for CNU, giving Alec Faulkner a shot at a penalty kick. The junior defender scored his first goal of the season to give CNU the lead for good.

In the second half, Brown and the Captains would tack on an insurance goal in the 60th minute of action. Rookie Jimmy Grace made a pass from the middle of the field that Brown let roll by he and his defender. With a step in front, Brown blasted a shot into the right corner for his 12th goal of the season. The two-goal performance improved his league-leading point total to 32, marking his second straight 30-point season.

Brandon Hoover started in goal for the Lions and made eight saves. Killion had just one save and one goal allowed as the CNU defense kept Penn State Harrisburg away from the goal all night. The Captains outshot Harrisburg, 33-5, including an 11-2 advantage in shots on-goal.

CNU will close out the regular season on Wednesday, October 30 at St. Mary's (Md.), with kickoff set for 3:00 pm. Following that game, the CAC Tournament seeding will be made official, and the Captains will know who they host next Saturday in the CAC Quarterfinals.
