CNU Volleyball Welcomes York and Washington & Lee to Town for a Tri-Match on Saturday

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- In the midst of a seven-match winning streak, the Christopher Newport volleyball team will host a tri-match on Saturday as the Captains welcome York and Washington & Lee to the Freeman Center for an afternoon of action beginning at 11 a.m.

Notching an 18-11 overall record, CNU stands atop the Capital Athletic Conference with a pristine 5-0 mark in league tilts. York comes in at 15-12 with a 2-3 record in the CAC, while Washington & Lee is 22-6 and sits in second in the ODAC standings.

Despite being non-conference foes, the Captains and Generals have already battled once this year with CNU grabbing a 3-1 decision during the Washington & Lee Invitational in September. Overall, the all-time series between the two programs is tied at 13-13. York and Christopher Newport have never faced each other.

Absolutely dominant along the net, senior Chastity Lacy recorded her 100th block of the year on Wednesday against St. Mary's. She leads the Capital Athletic Conference and ranks 10th in the nation in blocks-per-set, and she is now just the fourth Captain in program history to record 100 rejections in back-to-back seasons.

Not to be overlooked, Hannah Miller and Rachel Conway have also been suffocating along the front line. Miller sits second on the team and fourth in the CAC with 71 blocks, while Conway has 67 stops to go along with a team-high 541 assists.

Anchoring the attack, Briana Sutton has pounded the opposition with 206 kills, including a career-high 15 on Wednesday. She has been especially frightening in October, lacing six double-digit kill efforts to go along with a robust .325 hitting percentage.

Also pitching in on the defensive end, Sutton collected a career-high 12 digs against St. Mary's, while Brooke Moore led the team with 13 during the four-set victory. Overall, Moore sits second on the team with 241 digs this year. Rachel Close leads the way with 290, and Abby McIntyre has chipped in with 235 as well.

Vying for their fourth straight victory, the Washington & Lee Generals have been dangerous on the road this season, posting a 13-4 mark away from Lexington. M.A. Boles has been the team's top offensive threat with 333 kills and 34 aces, while Mackenzie Shand has paced the defense with 77 blocks. Kelly McManus has also led the squad with a 3.64 digs-per-set average.

Entering the final stretch of the regular season, York has dropped its last two decisions against Marymount and Frostburg State. Throughout the year, Ijeoma Igwe has guided the Spartan attack with 241 kills. Katie Huston has also pumped 171, and Allie Donahue has dished out 643 assists. Katherine Graziano has anchored the back row with a 4.92 digs-per-set average.
