No. 11 CNU Field Hockey Heads to Dover for a 9 a.m. Showdown with Wesley on Saturday

DOVER, Del. -- The 11th-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will look to continue its 12-game winning streak on Saturday morning when the Captains take on Wesley at 9 a.m. during a Capital Athletic Conference battle at Scott Miller Stadium.

Off to a pristine 12-0 start, CNU carries a spotless 2-0 record in conference action. Wesley stands at 8-4 on the year, including a 1-0 mark in the CAC.

Eager to get back out on the field after a weeklong break, the Captains boast one of the most well-balanced teams in the nation. Currently, the CNU offense ranks among the top-20 in scoring average and goals-per-game, while the defense sits eighth in goals-against-average and ninth in save percentage.

Anchoring the attack, Lauren Cheatham is among the national leaders in goals and points, while Belle Tunstall has been a fantastic facilitator. Presently, Cheatham leads the Captains with 12 goals and 28 points, while Tunstall has a team-high eight assists. Not to be overlooked, Kelsey Clark has eight goals, while Jordan Snider, Allie Hackbarth, and Shelby Judkins each have at least four assists.

Rallying the team on the defensive end, Christopher Newport has a veteran-laden unit that has been stellar throughout the year. Chelsea Hines has a team-high five defensive saves, while Snider has three. Shelby Judkins also has two stops and is the reigning CAC Defensive Player of the Week. Bailey Lien has been just as dependable in the cage, ranking among the NCAA elite with a 0.59 goals-against-average and an .872 save percentage.

Looking to continue the team's five-game winning streak, Wesley relies on Madison Leone to pace the offensive attack. The senior leads the squad with eight goals and four assists. Lauren Mears has also scored six times, while Rachel Joyner has four goals and two helpers.

Yielding just 0.80 goals-per-game over their last five contests, the Wolverines have also been stout defensively. Overall this season, Brooke Gannon ranks among the national leaders with 11 defensive saves, while Sarah Daniels has an .819 save percentage and a 1.74 goals-against-average.
