GREENSBORO, N.C. -- With an early lead to work with, the Captains offense pressured Greensboro College for more throughout the game but still led just 1-0 as the clock showed two minutes remaining. It was then that the Pride struck  for the equalizer, with less than 90 seconds remaining in regulation. Neither team scored in overtime and both would have to settle for a draw in the USA South Athletic Conference opener on Saturday. CNU falls to 2-1-2, 0-0-1 this season and GC is now 2-2-1, 0-0-1.

Sophomore Jalon Brown was the Captain who put CNU on top early in the game, scoring on a penalty kick in the 8th minute of action. It was his third goal of the season as he put CNU on top.

The Captains took 14 shots in regulation, putting six on-frame. Greensboro managed just five shots on-goal in the first 90 minutes but converted when it counted as Earl Floyd scored off a throw-in in the 89th minute of action.

In the overtime periods, CNU increased the pressure by dominating the extra time with nine shots while holding the home team without a single attempt.

As the first overtime period neared expiration, junior midfielder Caleb Lewis made a run beyond the defense and put a shot on frame that Greensboro keeper Manbi Nyepon saved, one of his nine in the game. On the play, though, a red card was given to Greensboro's Logan Paussa, giving the Captains a man advantage for the second overtime period.

CNU took four shots in the last ten minutes of the game, but was unable to convert and would earn its second tie of the season. For the game, CNU held a 23-9 advantage in shots, including a 10-5 advantage in those on-goal.

Christopher Newport will now travel to Ferrum College for the second conference game of the weekend as they take on the Panthers Sunday afternoon at 4:00 pm.
