CNU Takes on Greensboro College in USA South Opener at 4 pm

Captains open conference play on the road

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Christopher Newport University men's soccer team will open defense of the conference championship on Saturday, as the Captains travel to Greensboro College for the USA South opener. The game will kick-off at 4:00 pm and live stats will be available at CNUsports.com. CNU will then travel to Ferrum College for a Sunday afternoon tilt at 4:00 pm.

The Captains (2-1-1) rank sixth in the South Atlantic region heading into the weekend, winners of two straight. The offense has been led by senior Andrew Bonorden and sophomore Jalon Brown with five points each so far. Defensively, CNU has allowed five goals in four games for a 1.18 goals against average. Junior Sean Killion has played the bulk of the minutes between the pipes, while rookie Nolan Mann checked in admirably in the Captains last game after an injury early in the game.

Last season, Christopher Newport defeated the Pride, 7-0, to even the all-time series at 20-20-3. It is the longest series against any one team in the history of the program as the two teams have been playing since 1974.

Early this season, Greensboro is off to a 2-2 start, led by a stalwart defense that has allowed just three goals. Offensively, Morgan Stevenson has two goals while Logan Paussa has added one and an assist. Ferrum is 3-2-1, 0-0-1 out of the gate, led by Aaron Gustine with four goals and an assist for nine points.
