NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Christopher Newport University men's lacrosse team finished out their season with three straight wins with their 10-7 win over Greensboro today in the rain at Captains Field.
Kyle Pasta and
Rob Koster scored three goals apiece to lead the Captains' offense.
One minute into the game Jaeger Carlyle put Greensboro on the board with an unassisted goal. The Captains answered with two goals at 8:55 and 3:47. The Pride scored two in the last four minutes of the period to regain the lead 3-2.
The Captains controlled the second period taking eight shots to and holding the Pride to four. They scored three straight goals and allowed a man-up Greensboro goal in the final seconds of the half. The score at the break was 5-4 in favor of the Captains.
CNU scored a man-up goal to start the second half and put in another at the 6:10 mark for the only goal in the period. Both teams added three goals in the fourth four a 10-7 final score.
Andy McGregor made an impressive 16 saves in the contest, playing just over 45 minutes.
Ryan Long played just over 14 minutes and picked up four saves.
Ari Elgort won eight out of 17 faceoffs while
Teddy Pekalski won one out of three.
Zakary Burkhard led with five ground balls and was one of nine Captains that caused a turnover.
Seven different players scored for the Pride. Skip Jakupi won 11 of 20 faceoffs and led with seven ground balls. Wyatt Clay had a team-high four caused turnovers and goalkeeper Mitchell Kanowicz made eight saves.
The win improves CNU to 6-9 and drops Greensboro to 8-8.
